Katy Perry says she’s battling ‘waves of depression’ during coronavirus crisis

Katy Perry has told fans that she has been struggling with “waves of depression” while pregnant with her first child during the coronavirus crisis.

The singer, 35, is expecting a baby girl with fiance Orlando Bloom, 41, and is currently isolating in her California home.

“Sometimes I don’t know what’s worse trying to avoid the virus or the waves of depression that come with this new norm,” she wrote on Twitter on Monday.

The musician’s post was met with messages of support from her fans, who told Perry to “keep [her] light shining” and “stay as positive as possible” during the difficult time.

Perry recently shared a hilarious ultrasound of her unborn daughter to mark Mother’s Day in the United States, joking that it looked like her baby was “giving [her] the middle finger.”

Posting the video clip on Instagram, she wrote: “When your unborn daughter gives you a middle finger from the womb you know you’re in for it. #happymothersdaytome.”

The star announced her baby news back in March, when she released the music video for her single, Never Worn White, which showed her cradling a baby bump.

Discussing her impending motherhood while filming American Idol from home, Perry told viewers: “I don’t know exactly what it means yet to be a mother, although I’ve always felt very motherly to my friends and my fans.

“But I know that I’m about to step up into the next level.”

It will be a busy few months for the singer, who is set to release her fifth studio album on August 14.

Perry has also embraced speculation that she has recorded a duet with former foe Taylor Swift, following their reunion for Swift’s You Need To Calm Down video last year.
