Back in 2016, Orlando Bloom sent Twitter into a meltdown while vacationing in Italy, and it wasn’t because he was spotted without a face mask. (Remember the good old days of pre-quarantine vacation?)
Instead, the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor was photographed by paparazzi paddleboarding around the Mediterranean Sea completely naked. Then-girlfriend, Katy Perry, was there, too, just in more traditional swimming attire.
But fans who were freaking out four years ago, finally got what they were searching for (no, not where to find the uncensored version of the pics). On Tuesday, Perry explained why Bloom went nude on that fateful paddleboarding excursion as she joined Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show.
“It was Europe, and honestly, we had had a pretty chill time for a week,” Perry replied after Stern brought up the infamous incident.
“Everywhere we looked, it was like everybody was naked, it was Europe, it was Italy. And I think he wanted to fit in with the locals, and it was the end of the trip,” she explained in an attempt at an Italian accent.
Perry, who is expecting the couple’s first child together, also shared the humorous story of when she realized Bloom’s photo had gone viral.
“Days before, he was talking about Twitter and some statistics about Pirates Of The Caribbean or The Lord Of The Rings, just in good fun,” she said of films Bloom has starred in.
“I was like, eye roll, eye roll, eye roll,” Perry joked. “Then all of a sudden he is number one trending on Twitter, and I was like, ‘How?’”
And if you’re wondering why Perry kept her swimsuit on, it may be that she has a bit of a sixth sense when it comes to the paparazzi. “He tried to get me there, and I was like, ‘Nah,’” she said with a laugh.
“I mean, I would have never set him up if I had a real thought. But in the back of my mind - I am Jim Carrey in The Truman Show a little bit - I feel like, ‘You know, maybe there would be a chance.’”
Perry also discussed her pregnancy, telling Stern that her due date is fast approaching. “I think 2020 is the year where if you make plans, God laughs,” Perry said of her birthing plans.
“I have been really going with the flow and I have a couple of ideas for that date coming soon - very soon. It could be this morning,” she joked, later adding, “I’m not anxious at all, I feel super-blessed, I’ve had a really easy [pregnancy] physically.”
And when Stern asked about Perry’s and Bloom’s wedding, which was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, the singer confirmed it would happen at a later date. “Of course that will come in the future, but for now, we just want to deliver a healthy child - and that’s what’s coming up."
