Katy Perry opens up about 'hellish' Orlando Bloom split and what brought them together

Katy Perry has opened up about her devastating break up from Orlando bloom where she admits she 'went through hell' before they came out the other side together.

In their early days, the pair looked like Hollywood's hot new couple but then shocked fans in March 2017 by announcing they'd split. After ten months apart Katy, 35, and Orlando, 43, decided to give their romance another try and things have been looking rosy for the couple ever since.

As she prepares to give birth to their daughter any day now, Katy has given an very honest interview about her time away from Orlando in the new issue of People and why she views it as the best thing for them.

The mum-to-be said she "It's really about an individual journey that makes the whole thing better.

"We both had to decide to go on that journey separately because it's not my half and your half that makes a whole. It's my wholeness and your wholeness that makes this whole thing happen."

Katy added that despite recoupling with Orlando, they are still realistic about their future.

"Yes, we have problems. Everybody has challenges in a relationship," she explained.

"It's a never-ending evolution, so it's not peachy-keen jelly bean all the time, but it's nice to have been able to show each other all the good, bad and everything in between, and really fight for our best selves."

One track on Katy's upcoming album Smile entitled Champagne Problems, contains very personal lyrics about her journey with Orlando.

Explaining the title, she said: "We just joke, like yeah, we still have things to work out — but champagne problems! We've gotten through a lot of hell."
