Katy Perry leaves viewers in tears as fireworks close Celebrating America

Katy Perry has closed the events for Joe Biden's Inauguration Day with a sumptuous performance and fireworks, leaving many viewers in tears.

The primetime special, Celebrating America, which was hosted by Hollywood legend Tom Hanks, was the finale to a historic day in the United States.

There was only one way it could all end as well, with Katy Perry singing her 2010 smash hit Firework, as the Washington DC night sky was lit up by exploding fireworks.

The Grammy-nominated pop star wore a stunning red, white and blue gown, as she finished the night how Lady Gaga started it, with a showstopping dress selection.

As President Joe Biden and Dr Jill Biden along with Vice President Kamala Harris and husband Doug Emhoff looked on, Katy sang Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

One viewer commented on Twitter : "You're not officially the president of the United States until Katy Perry sings 'Firework' to you.”

For the most part, the song was an emotional end to the day, leaving many in tears as a new dawn was ushered in across the United States.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "Ok firework by katy perry makes me cry everytime I love her."

Another added: "I never expected Katy Perry would make me cry, but she did. Happy tears."

A third tweeted: "Katy Perry's performance was so beautiful it gave me chills. Her vocals and the fireworks erupting behind her. Perfection!"

After John Legend sang a celebrated version of Nina Simone’s "Feeling Good" earlier in the evening, his wife Chrissy Teigen summed up the feeling, tweeting: "And then @katyperry killed it."
