Katy Perry jokes she and Taylor Swift ‘fight like cousins’

These days, all is well when it comes to Katy Perry’s and Taylor Swift’s friendship.

But fans of the popstars’ will remember it wasn’t long ago that the two were embroiled in a bitter feud that played out over social media and covered everything from arena tour “sabotage” to ex-boyfriends and even sharks (the left shark to be specific).

Though they’ve since publicly made up - dressed as a burger and fries, no less - Perry couldn’t help but make a joke about their former feud during an interview on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp.

Host Sian Welby broached the topic when she asked Perry, 35, about a rumor she had seen. “I’ve gone deep into some Katy Perry fandom here,” Welby said, adding, “Apparently, you and Taylor Swift are ninth cousins. Is this right?” she asked.

“Well, we fight like cousins,” Perry quipped, before referring to the story as “fan fic.” But Capital Breakfast host Roman Kemp explained that Perry’s fans were insistent that it was true.

“I don’t know if it’s fiction, but someone has literally written, ‘This is real!’” Kemp said. “They’ve done it on that MyHeritage site,” he explained of how fans had linked Perry and 30-year-old Swift.

“Wow, I'm going to have to ask her if this is true or if we should, like, get blood tests together or something,” Perry said.

But Perry didn’t just call into the show to talk about potentially being related to Swift. The singer also discussed her new single, ‘Smile,’ and, of course, she answered questions about her pregnancy.

“We’ve got a few names,” said Perry of potential baby names she and fiancé Orlando Bloom have picked out for their first child together, a girl. “Really, we want her to tell us. Like when you see a person and you’re like, ‘Oh, you really look like your name.’”
