Katy Perry admits she used to pose as Zooey Deschanel to get into clubs

Katy Perry has admitted to her "doppelgänger" Zooey Deschanel that she used to impersonate the New Girl actress to get into clubs.

Chatting with Deschanel on Instagram Live, the pop performer talked to Deschanel about their long history of being confused for one another.

“When I moved to LA maybe 18 years ago ... I have to admit something, Zooey," Perry said. "I was pretty much a nobody, and you were like just getting so huge at that time – it was like Zooey Deschanel ran the world at that particular moment. When I first got to LA, I went to the club a lot. And I wanted to get into the club, but I had no money, I had no clout, I had nothing, and sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club."

Deschanel recently starred in Perry's "Not the End of the World" music video, which jokingly leans into the duo's longtime twinning status. In the video, which arrived yesterday (21 December), blue-skinned aliens come to earth, confuse Deschanel for Perry, abduct the actress, and dress her up in Teenage Dream-era wigs and outfits.

At the time, Deschanel realised that she had a doppelgänger when "people were like, 'I saw you out! I made eye contact with you!'"

"Everybody kept telling me about you," Deschanel said. "This girl Katy, she looks just like you,’ And I’m like, ‘Who is this Katy?'" When they finally met in person, Deschanel expressed relief, “because you’re so pretty".

"I’m sorry if I misrepresented you," laughed Perry. "I wanted to say that now."
