Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato insisted on Tuesday that the warning issued by the U.S. on travel restrictions would not affect the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
Kato told reporters that the warning "does not ban essential trips."
"We will continue collecting information and take appropriate steps to handle the situation," Kato said.
Regarding the Tokyo Games, which is set to start on July 23, Kato said, "We have been told by the U.S. side that the decision was not related to the dispatch of their national team."
However, a Japanese government official said, "It is possible that [the warning] might affect the Games."
