Katie Taylor to fight Amanda Serrano behind closed doors on July 4

Katie Taylor will meet Amanda Serrano in a unique environment in early July - as in behind closed doors.

The unbeaten Bray orthodox is slated to defend her IBF/WBA/WBO/WBC lightweight titles against the Puerto Rico-born southpaw at the Manchester Arena on July 4.

But organisers are monitoring the July 4 date because of the restrictions on sport because of the coronavirus pandemic.

When those restrictions are lifted, British promoter Eddie Hearn is planning to come out fighting with a number of shows lined up for this summer.

Hearn, who promotes Taylor, is hoping that boxing can resume in late June or early July in the UK.

“June is still in the balance, but we are working towards boxing behind closed doors for the end of June or early July.

“We are in the process of building a unique environment for boxing to return. We will stage several shows.

Hearn added that the “unique environment” will focus on the health and safety of boxers.

“We don’t want to take any chances. For the sake of a few months, we are not going to put people at risk of contracting an illness which could potentially be fatal.”

Taylor has won fifteen fights going into what is expected to be the biggest test of her career over ten, two-minute rounds.

Serrano, a multiple weight world champion, is on an eight-year winning streak since the only loss of her 40-bout career to Frida Wallberg in 2012.

The Brooklyn-based lefty has won 28 of her fights by way of KO, as opposed to six knockouts for Taylor.
