Katie Taylor's sensational 2019 has got even better as the Bray boxer has been crowned the Female Fighter of the Year by the Boxing Writers’ Association of America.
Taylor will receive the Christy Martin award early next year, following in the footsteps of Cecilia Braekhus and Claressa Shilds in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Taylor became the undisputed lightweight champion in June when she defeated Delfine Persoon at Madison Square Garden, and became a two-weight champ when she overcame Christina Linardatou to win the WBO super lightweight title last month.
And the 33-year-old is set to steal the headlines in 2020 as she lines up a super-fight with Amanda Serrano, with Braekhus also favoured as another potential opponent.
But a potential rematch with Persoon, originally hoped to take place next summer, is in doubt after the Belgian made a shock decision to turn amateur in a bid for Olympic glory.
Persoon is set to compete at Olympic qualifiers in March and will hope to represent her country at lightweight in Tokyo next year.
