Katie Taylor says Amanda Serrano fight will be bigger than Olympic gold

Katie Taylor has claimed that her super-fight with Amanda Serrano will be a bigger moment than her Olympics gold medal triumph.

The Bray boxer, 35, takes on Serrano native in an historic Madison Square Garden showdown on April 30 - the first ever time two women have headlined a boxing match at the iconic venue.

And when the pound-for-pound greatest in the women's game do battle, Taylor thinks it'll be a bigger moment than her London 2012 coronation as Olympic champion.

"The Olympic gold is always very special," Taylor said at a press conference in London on Monday.

"But I think this moment will be the biggest moment of my career so far".

And although admitting that she'll have little say in where her next fight will be, she hopes a Dublin lap of honour is on the cards.

"I hope so, but that's unfortunately not down to me," Taylor admitted.

"That's down to the likes of Eddie Hearn - It'll be a shame if I went through my whole career without fighting in Ireland."

Taylor has dedicated the fight to the next generation of female fighters, and hopes that her and Serrano's MSG showcase can help open some doors for other women in the sport.

"Just don't give up," Taylor replied when asked what her message to young women looking to follow in her footsteps.

"The reason why this fight feels so special is because, not just for myself and Amanda as individuals, it feels like we are bringing the whole sport with us.

"This is for the next generation of female fighters, just keep training, keep doing your thing in the gym - anything's possible if you're willing to work hard."
