Katie Taylor's rival Delfine Persoon crashes out of European Olympics qualifiers at first hurdle

Delfine Persoon's Olympic dream has been thrown into major doubt after the Belgian crashed out of the European qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympics today.

The Belgian boxer, who narrowly lost to undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor last summer, has lost the preliminary round bout to Greece's Nikoleta Pita.

In the massive shock, Persoon's Olympic bid fell at the first hurdle, but she'll have a second chance at potential world qualifiers later this year.

The 35-year-old moved to amateur level late last year, giving up on a rematch with Taylor after controversially losing their Madison Square Garden bout.

Kellie Harrington received a bye into the last 16, and will be in action on Tuesday - with a top six finish enough to ensure a ticket to Tokyo.
