Katie Taylor 'punched the head off me in training' says Carl Frampton

Carl Frampton has spoken about his experience of sparring with Katie Taylor.

When the pair were both amateurs, they used to spar from time-to-time. Frampton was extremely complimentary of Taylor and praised both her speed and skill.

According to 'The Jackal', one way he could get the better of Katie was by using his superior size and strength advantage. In terms of pure boxing ability however, very few could get the better of Taylor.

”I used to do a lot of sparring with Katie Taylor when I was an amateur on the High-Performance team," Frampton recently told BT Sport, "She would have sparred a lot of the guys in and around featherweight, bantamweight, lightweight. She was so fast, her hand speed was unbelievable.

“The only time I’d have success with Katie was when I’d lay on her, use my strength and push her back. I was a bit stronger than her. If I stood off her and tried to have a boxing match with her I used to get the head punched off me.

“Katie was brilliant and a lovely person, so dedicated to the sport. Obviously, there are women that have come before her but in terms of boxing as an Olympic sport, Katie Taylor should take most of the credit for getting female boxing into the Olympics, She is a hero to so many people.”
