Katie Taylor named Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year to cap off successful 2020

Katie Taylor has been named Ring Magazine's Female Fighter of the Year for the second year running.

The Bray superstar was already named the No 1 pound-for-pound female fighter in the world by the highly respected boxing publication last month following her defeat of Miriam Gutierrez.

Taylor, 34 - who also took down Delfine Persoon in a rematch back in August - has now become the first puncher to retain the magazine's Female Fighter of the Year status.

Taylor - who holds a perfect 17-0 record since turning pro - also put Boxing Writers Association of America Female Fighter of the Year awards back-to-back this year, becoming the first to achieve that feat.

Reacting to that news earlier this month, she said: “It’s such an honor to be chosen twice.

“To win this award again is amazing. I’m hoping to be fighting in February or March of next year, and we’re not too sure who or where it will be, but I’m excited to be fighting again.

“Going into 2020, I was hoping this would be a good year for me. I was happy to finish off the year fighting my mandatory and I’m delighted to finish my year off strong. I always go into every year trying to make huge strides in the sport.”
