Katie Taylor believes it's hard to look past Manny Pacquiao in potential fight with Conor McGregor

Katie Taylor believes Conor McGregor would struggle to beat Manny Pacquiao in a boxing bout.

The Notorious returns to UFC action against Dustin Poirier next month, but he has also been linked with fighting the boxing great in 2021.

Pacquiao's assistant Jake Joson claimed in September that the fight would go ahead, but McGregor's manager Audie Attar stated afterwards that discussions were still ongoing.

Lightweight boxing queen Taylor believes it is a huge challenge for an MMA fighter to beat a boxer of the Pac Man's calibre, but added that if anyone can do it, McGregor can.

She told The Irish Mirror: "It's hard to look past the likes of Manny Pacquiao. I'm obviously a huge McGregor fan, he's been a huge supporter of me, but it's very hard to see past the boxers in those situations.

"The likes of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are the two best boxers of our generation.

"But if anyone can do it, I guess Conor McGregor can. He's got the best mindset and a great mentality. He has such a winning mindset."

Taylor could also compete in a crossover bout next year, with MMA star Cris Cyborg one of a number of potential opponents for her.

And the Bray fighter is confident that she would emerge victorious from a bout with the Brazilian.

The number one pound for pound female boxer in the world added: "I think Cyborg is the bigger fighter in that situation. She's probably regarded as a stronger fighter against me so that obviously favours her, but regardless of who I'm stepping into the ring with I'm always going to favour myself.

"Every time I step into the ring I expect to come out as the winner so that's not going to change against Cyborg."
