Katie Price says mum is 'suffocating' with devastating terminal illness

Katie Price says her mother Amy Price is "suffocating" as she battles terminal illness.

The 43-year-old's mum was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which is incurable, back in 2017. It causes scarring to the lungs which reduces her ability to breathe and she relies on oxygen to help her.

Katie has been open about her mum's health struggles and during an appearance on ITV's Lorraine this morning, the former glamour model opened up about her close bond with her mum.

She also gave viewers an insight into her mum's health battle as she admitted it was hard for her to see her mum like that.

Speaking on the ITV show about her mum, she said: "My mum keeps saying to me, 'Just when I'm about to rest, you do something else, you keep me on my toes.' We have a joke about it, you're on a leash around the house."

"It's a horrible illness because you're suffocating... it's not nice to see your mum like that," she added.

Katie's mother Amy has been open about her medical condition in the past, where she previously shared how her lung function was worsening. Speaking back in 2019, she gave a health update as she said: "I’m not too bad. I went for tests this week with the transplant team. My lung function has dropped slightly but that’s to be expected."

Katie recently renovated her 'Mucky Mansion' for a Channel 4 show and she got emotional as she explained why she wanted her mum to design a room in her new home for when she's gone.

"Because it could actually potentially be the last thing she ever does for me," Katie explained, "And hopefully she doesn't pass, but when she eventually does, I know I have a room that she put together. It's sentimental, a nice room, a happy room to be in."

Amy also felt the room was very important to them all.

She said: "When you're not well you look at things in a different way and it would be nice if you can leave things that people can remember you by. Once it is done I want it to be a happy room, a comforting room, whenever she is sort of not feeling too good she can come in here and it will be quiet. And she can reflect.

"That's what I think will be nice for her. I've had this Chinese bureau for fifty years myself and well, it's just been with me."

Last year, Katie explained that her mum's illness was slowing her down, but she is a fighter.

"She puts on a massive show of strength but her illness is slowing her down," she said, "We've both got tough exteriors, neither of us show anyone what's going on inside. Because we know we're losing Mum, nothing goes unsaid."
