Katie Price breaks silence over drink drive smash

Katie Price has spoken out on TV for the first time after avoiding jail.

The TV star was handed a suspended sentence after overturning her car last year in a drink-driving crash.

Today, Katie appeared on Good Morning Britain in an exclusive interview, alongside her son Harvey, talking to hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Bacon.

In the interview she claimed "traumatic events" made her decide to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.

The 43-year-old said she isn't "a big drinker", and insisted she would be turning her life around saying: "2022 is definitely my year - 22 is my lucky number... this has to be my year of no dramas. So much has happened last year."

Host Susanna pointed out: "You must be thankful that you're not in jail... you managed to avoid a jail sentence, things could have been very different."

Katie replied : "They could have been and the events leading up to it were very traumatic and it's still been traumatic after so I'm not ready to talk about it yet.

"But, what I can say is obviously I went to the Priory and I made the decision to see a therapist every week forever. To deal with the traumatic events that led me up to that car because I'm very good at hiding things.

"There's reasons why I got in that car with my mental state. But when I'm ready to talk about it, I'll talk about it. I feel ashamed about it all."

Susanna said she has already been judged as she has been through the court system and changed the subject by asking her about dry January - a month without alcohol.

But Katie responded: "This dry January is from the media. I'm not even a big drinker anyway."
