Katie Price announces plans to adopt a Nigerian orphan on This Morning

Katie Price has revealed she is planning to adopt a Nigerian orphan.

The former glamour model, 40, broke the news on This Morning, saying she has “plenty of rooms” in her house.

“I’ve always said I wanted to adopt a child,” she told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. “I don’t care if they’ve got disabilities or AIDS. I want to offer them a place.

“I was having my nails done and I got talking to a woman who works with orphans in Nigeria. She knows all these people who do visas and stuff.”

Asked why she has decided against adopting a child in Britain, she replied: “It is so hard to adopt over here. It’s easy abroad – but just hard to bring them back to the country. I’ve looked into it for ages.”

Big announcement: Katie Price on This Morning (ITV)

Price already has son Harvey, 16, with ex-footballer Dwight Yorke, Junior, 13, and Princess, 11, with ex-husband Peter Andre and Jett, five, and Bunny, four, with Kieran Hayler.

She said her decision to adopt is not her ruling out plans to have more biological children, saying she wants to expand her brood.

“I still want my own kids don’t get me wrong,” she said. “I’d love more. But if I can offer a place there are enough rooms in the house. Eleven bedrooms – there are too many to fill.”

Price also took the opportunity to clear up reports on her private life, including bankruptcy reports and rehab claims. She said the last year felt like being inside a “washing machine” after learning of her mother’s terminal diagnosis, Hayler’s cheating and the death of her horse and German Shephard. She was also held at gunpoint and had a kidnap threat on Harvey.

She said she is now focusing on the adoption, as well as a number of projects including a film of her life, turning her books into movies and performing a one woman show at the Royal Albert Hall.

This Morning is on ITV, weekdays at 10:30am
