Conservative podcaster Katie Miller — the wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller — came to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s defense after the New York Democrat disclosed that she had decided to freeze her eggs.
During an Instagram livestream Saturday night, Ocasio-Cortez told her 9.6 million followers: “Usually I keep my private life quite private, but I have made the decision to start freezing my eggs.”
The next day, after Ocasio-Cortez was met with a barrage of vitriol from the MAGA sphere, Miller took to X with an unexpected note of support.
“We have historically low birth rates worldwide,” wrote Miller, who welcomed her fourth child in June. “If one woman wants to preserve her right to have children, which means more than having none—we should celebrate that.”
“More women should get married and have babies younger, but too many women buy into the feminist lie and spend their childbearing years climbing the career ladder,” she continued. “Everyone’s journey to motherhood is different, just as each of us mothers differently. I can’t wait to see how motherhood changes AOC.”
Miller, who hosts a weekly lifestyle podcast, adopted a markedly different tone from that of other conservatives who flooded social media with hostile commentary about the 36-year-old Democrat, who is engaged to her longtime partner.
“Another left wing childless moron rambling, these women sell their eggs to the highest bidder,” wrote one X user called MAGA MAN.
“Oh so very sad for her,” wrote another user, a self-described conservative Christian and Trump supporter. “She needs to get married and have kids. Stop wasting time.”
Other commenters characterized the lawmaker’s decision as inappropriate or argued that her age put a future child at risk. Some also invoked past remarks in which she suggested that, in light of climate change, it could be unethical to have children.
Still, even some critics of Ocasio-Cortez’s politics argued that her decision was no cause for condemnation.
“I don’t agree with AOC on much but attacking her for freezing her eggs is pathetic,” one X user chimed in. “Whatever happened to live and let live?”
Ocasio-Cortez, a frequent subject of 2028 presidential chatter, expanded on her decision during an appearance on ABC News on Sunday.
“In this political environment where this administration is denying reproductive care to women across the country, from abortion rights to the ability to carry out a healthy pregnancy,” she told host Jonathan Karl.
“I think it’s important for us as leaders to have these conversations,” she added, “and share these processes, especially for working women across the country, and normalize them.”
Also on Sunday, she posted videos documenting herself injecting the medications used in the egg-freezing protocol. “Don't be weird about this,” she said in one clip. “Even though I know all of you will be.”
