Katie McGlynn jokes she's been on Corrie 'too long' just days before 'mass exodus'

Katie McGlynn joked that she had been on Coronation Street "too long" just days before several stars announced they were quitting the soap .

While Katie is yet to officially confirm she is leaving Corrie , during an appearance on Celebrity Juice she was asked by host Keith Lemon how long she had played her character Sinead Tinker.

Groaning in jest, Katie, 25, replied: "Too long... I'm joking! I think it’s been about seven years."

Keith then cheekily quipped: "Get out then. Get out!"

News that Katie was departing the long-running ITV show came two days after Faye Brookes quit - just days after the panel show was filmed.

Also announcing their exits this year were Tristan Gemmill, Connie Hyde, Bhavna Limbachia and Kym Marsh.

Who has quit Coronation Street and why? As Lucy Fallon joins 'mass exodus'

Katie, who appeared on Celeb Juice alongside her co-star Rob Mallard, said in January year that her time on Corrie was "up in the air".

"I'm contracted well into this year but it is up in the air. Although I have to wait and see what happens, I quite like not knowing.

"With the nature of my storyline, I guess it's 50/50. Either way I'd be happy, though."

Katie's character Sinead was recently given the all clear from cancer after deciding to delay her treatment to give birth to baby Bertie.

A Corrie spokesperson said of Katie's departure: "Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.

"This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers."

So far seven actors have quit this year, with six more expected to be announcing their departures over the next month.

There has been much speculation as to the reasons for so many exits, but insiders have denied reports that filming schedules have been extended to weekends.

An ITV source told Mirror TV: "The production days for the show are Monday to Friday.

"We don’t work at the weekend other than very occasionally, we have worked three Sundays this year and at the moment no more are planned. We don’t ever work on a Saturday."
