Katie McGlynn felt 'paranoid' while in Corrie thinking she 'never measured up' to the other girls on ITV soap

Katie McGlynn has opened up on the insecurities she suffered when she first joined Coronation Street.

The Rochdale actress made her debut on the ITV soap back in 2016 and bowed out last year.

Katie, 27, was part of one of the most important and heartbreaking storylines during her four years as her character Sinead Tinker - later Osbourne - found out she had cervical cancer while pregnant at 24.

But while previously admitting the devastating storyline took its toll as it lead to the character's death, Katie says she has grown in confidence.

“As a woman, I’ve grown more confident as I’ve got older. But it has been a gradual build-up. When I first joined Corrie, I wasn’t confident," Katie, who joins Hollyoaks this week, told The Sun.

"If I could go back and talk to that girl, I’d tell her not to worry so much about what people think, because they’re not worrying as much as you are.

“Now if I see nasty comments, I’m not fussed. But when I was younger I would have been upset because I never felt I measured up to the other girls on Corrie looks-wise."

Katie admitted that she felt "paranoid that girls would judge me and b***h about me, when they probably weren’t even looking."

But she had a lot of praise for her former co-stars.

"There were certain times when I felt uncomfortable and low," she added.

"But luckily, everyone at Corrie was lovely and some of them are my best friends now. Brooke Vincent, Lisa George and Sam Aston were all really supportive of me.

"They’re a lovely bunch and they looked after me when I felt really nervous and on my own."

Katie had now swapped Weatherfield for Chester as she makes her first Hollyoaks appearance tonight (Monday).

She joins the Channel 4 soap as new character Becky, a mysterious newcomer who befriends Diane Hutchinson.

And she looks completely different from bubbly machinist Sinead.
