Katie McCabe scores winning goal to quash injury fears as Arsenal move into WSL contention

Katie McCabe has allayed injury fears by scoring the winner and playing the full 90 minutes as Arsenal came from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1 in the WSL.

City took the lead in the fifth minute through Kadija Shaw, but the Gunners showed serious resolve with Frida Maanum equalising before McCabe smashed home a late winner.

McCabe's jubulation was a far cry from the scenes of just a few days ago when the Irish skipper had to be helped from the field late on in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Irish star was later seen wearing a protective boot on her left foot and using crutches as she celebrated with her team.

These images worried Irish fans who initially feared McCabe's participation at this summer's World Cup may be in doubt.

McCabe's inclusion in Vera Pauw's squad to take on the USA next month may have eased some fears, but the sight of McCabe smashing home a winner with the same foot many thought was injured is sure to delight many Irish and Arsenal fans alike.

The Gunners now sit second in the WSL table and are just three points behind Manchester United having played a game less than the Red Devils.
