A man has been charged with the murder of a mother-of-two who has been missing for almost a week.

Katie Kenyon, 33, was last seen at around 9.30am on Friday getting into a Ford Transit van with a man in Burnley, Lancashire.

Her disappearance triggered a major police search, with more than 60 specialist officers combing a forest in the nearby Ribble Valley.

Police previously said there was only a "slim hope" of finding Ms Kenyon alive.

On Wednesday night, Lancashire Police announced that Andrew Burfield, 50, of Todmorden Road, Burnley, had been charged with her murder.

He is due to appear before Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

The force said in a statement: “Katie’s family have been made aware and continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

“They pass on their thanks for all the well-wishing messages but have asked people respect their privacy at this time.”
