Katie Hopkins swerves bankruptcy after losing libel case and now lives in a rented house

Katie Hopkins has had a moan about being forced to sell her £1m home after losing a libel case.

The 44-year-old swerved bankruptcy after a £500,000 legal bill made her apply for an individual voluntary arrangement.

The former Apprentice candidate was made to get rid of her family home after writer Jack Monroe sued her for libel and won.

Hopkins falsely accused the activist of vandalising a war memorial.

Jack asked Katie to apologise and donate £5,000 to a migrants charity - but when she refused, Jack took her to court.

Hopkins spoke to the Sunday Times about her fall from grace, revealing: "I live in a rented, modern, four-bedroom detached house with my husband Mark and our three children, aged 15, 14 and 10.

"It's tucked out of the way for security reasons - our last home was rigged up to the local police station and had panic alarms fitted because of threats I received to my life.

"I was forced to sell it for £950,000 in early 2018 to pay off a legal bill in excess of £500,000."

Katie has never apologised for her comments about Jack and instead claims that 'speaking her mind ended her career' - but admits she regrets not acting sooner, reports the Mirror .

“Arguably, not settling the legal case brought against me,” she told the newspaper.

"I could have settled by giving £5,000 to a migrant charity but chose not to, and the ensuing court action and legal bills forced me to apply for an individual voluntary arrangement."

Hopkins has found herself in the headlines on many occasions for her contentious views - most recently she was outed by Jesy Nelson as a catalyst for her depression following a fat-shaming tweet about the Little Mix singer.

Hopkins said in 2013: "Packet Mix have still got a chubber in their ranks. Less Little Mix. More Pick n Mix."

Jesy said on BBC documentary Odd One Out: "That is the pinnacle point for me when I got severely depressed and it just spiralled out of control."
