Katie Holmes's innovative table centerpiece brings a cozy, autumnal energy to any dinner party – it's trending for 2025 (and easy to replicate)

As the leaves turn brown and the air becomes crisp, we're dreaming of cozy nights around the table with family and friends. Besides the company, artfully chosen decor is what makes these evenings special. Katie Holmes is here to inspire.

The actress took to Instagram to share an image of her cozy dining table decor, and it's a celebration of candlelight. The most striking aspect of her design is the bowl filled with water, accompanied by tea lights, for a lovely floating effect. She creates alternating heights with twisted candlesticks and a vase of flowers.

According to the experts, Katie's look is right on trend for this autumn. Chloe Barrow, interior designer at Laura James explains the fall table decor idea, stating: 'A centrepiece is a great way to create visual interest and emphasise the ambience and aesthetic of your home, and homemade ones in circular trays are trending this season.'

Though the look is elevated, Katie's table centerpiece is exceedingly easy to recreate. It all begins with a circular bowl or tray to create definition.

Chloe advises Homes & Gardens: 'When it comes to creating your own centrepiece, using a circular tray is a fantastic way to ensure it’s the perfect size and doesn’t accidentally lean into guests’ individual spaces at the table.'

Katie's design is simple, but a few well placed details can make it look even more elegant. Here are our editor's picks for bringing out the glamor in your everyday fall entertaining.

As seen on Katie Holmes's table, just the bowl of candles isn't enough. It's important to add a range of accessories to create visual interest and contrast. Though many of us are experimenting with fall food trends, a stunning tablescape can take your entertaining to the next level.

Chloe recommends: 'Within the circular tray, the most important way to create an eye-catching centrepiece is to play with height. Consider using tall candlesticks combined with flat orange, brown, and red leaves to decorate. Ensure each element is a different size to create real interest.'

Setting a table is about much more than plates, napkins, and placemats. The right centerpiece makes all the difference.
