TV and radio presenter Katie Derham is the latest celebrity to sign up for the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Derham, best known for presenting the BBC Proms on BBC2, described the hit BBC1 show as a national treasure.
“I’m extremely excited to be part of such a wonderful show,” said Derham, who also presents an afternoon show on BBC Radio 3. “Strictly Come Dancing is a national treasure.”
Derham, who learned to conduct on the Clive Anderson-fronted BBC2 reality show Maestro, said that she was keen to test herself physically in the arts world she covers as a presenter.
“I spend hours admiring professional musicians and performers at the Proms and BBC Radio 3, so I’m thrilled to have the chance to throw myself into an equally demanding and beautiful world. It will be a totally new experience for me and I can’t wait to get going.”
Derham, the former ITV News reader, is the fifth celebrity to join the Strictly Come Dancing line up alongside BBC presenter Jeremy Vine, celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott, Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote and Eastenders actress Kellie Bright.
The 13th series of Strictly Come Dancing begins on BBC1 in September.
