Kathy Griffin is “so grateful” for the support she’s received since opening up about her health battle.
The comedian revealed her diagnosis with lung cancer on Monday, the same day an interview aired on ABC News’ “Nightline” in which Griffin spoke about an addiction to prescription pills and a “very serious suicide attempt” in June 2020.
“Wow! I’m so grateful for all the love you guys are sending me,” Griffin tweeted Tuesday. “My cancer surgery went well yesterday. Phew. I was very nervous about opening up on @Nightline re my suicidal ideations and my prescription pill addiction.”
The tweet also included a photo of a sobriety keychain, with Griffin writing, “One day at a time.”
A representative for Griffin, 60, confirmed Monday that the star was resting and recovering after her surgery for cancer “went well.”
Griffin had revealed her diagnosis shortly before the operation.
“Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!” Griffin shared Monday in an announcement on social media. “The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung.
“Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing,” Griffin continued. “I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less.”
