Kathy Griffin: I was booed for suggesting Florida State change Seminoles name

Nov. 10--Kathy Griffin said she was booed at an appearance at Florida State University after suggesting the university change the name of its team, the Seminoles.

"I went out and I said to 10,000 Seminole fans, you guys gotta change that name, it's really dated. And I got booed by 10,000 kids," Griffin told Seth Meyers in Monday's episode of "Late Night."

Griffin, an Oak Park native, performed at Florida State in 2012 as part of its homecoming celebration. She said in order to win the crowd back she showed off her knowledge of sex offenders close to campus, which she said was part of the homework she did before the appearance.

Griffin said she sobbed and ran to her car after the hour-long set. Then she called Cher.

"And she said, 'What the hell are you doing in Florida (expletive)? Get back home,'" Griffin recalled.

Griffin, 55, is scheduled to play Carnegie Hall on Thursday as part of the New York Comedy Festival. She told Billboard magazine in an article posted online Monday that she hopes presidential candidate Donald Trump shows up at her appearance with his wife Melania because they inspire two hours worth of material.

Griffin told Billboard her dream scenario is if Trump gets elected and then impeached 48 hours later and Hillary Clinton "comes in and makes it all better." Griffin said she supports Clinton for the presidency, a move she said could cost her half her audience.

"I'm told by my team, 'Don't say who you're supporting. It'll cost you ticket sales.' (Expletive) that. Yeah, I'm supporting Hillary, sue me. At this stage in my career I'm less fearful then I was 20 years ago, and yeah, I'm supporting Hillary," Griffin said.
