Kathryn Thomas reveals that her days of clubbing are finished since becoming a mum

Kathryn Thomas said her days of fun and clubbing are over since becoming a mum last year.

The RTE presenter revealed the highlight of her weekend is now getting to bed before 9pm to watch the news.

Reflecting on how motherhood has changed her, Kathryn, who celebrated her daughter Ellie’s first birthday last month, said she doesn’t remember life without her tot.

She told the RTE Guide: “In one way, everything changed and then in the other, nothing has changed.”

“It feels like she was always meant to be there.

“But have I changed? I suppose my focus has changed hugely away from myself, so now everything is focused on her.”

The mum-of-one, who also just celebrated her own 40th birthday earlier this year, added: “I think the biggest change for me is that I’m obsessed with her and I’m completely focused on her and I think ‘What the hell did I do before?'

“I know what I used to do, I used to go out with my friends and go dancing and have a lovely time and drink wine.

“Whereas now, I’m in bed on a Saturday night at 9pm watching the news and I’m delighted to be in the scratcher.

“So it’s changed utterly but not at all, if that makes sense.”

The Operation Transformation host is set to return to the screens again next week at the helm of RTE’s three day landmark show, Weather Live.

However, after 20 years in the business, she said she had built up a thick skin when it came to critics long before she became a mother.

She explained: “I remark how a lot of new mums speak of having a newfound resilience, in that they no longer sweat the small stuff.

Miss Universe Ireland boss Brittany Mason reveals how she met Donald Trump as a teen beauty queen

“Having been in the public eye for 20 years I had to learn a long time ago not to care not to care what people think and I learnt to be happy with myself, in myself and in my decisions.”

“I had to learn that a long time ago.”

Meanwhile, thankful for everything and everywhere her job brought her, the former No Frontiers host said she is hopeful her daughter will be just as well travelled.

She said: “I just feel so lucky to have seen as much as much of the world as I have done.

“It was a very grounding experience and a very rounding experience at the same time.

“I already have her travelling around Ireland, we’ve been to lots of places in the first year she was born so long may that continue.”
