Kathleen Reynolds, the wife of former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, has passed away.
Mrs Reynolds was 88.
She had been ill for some time, and passed away in the early hours of the morning at the family home in Dublin.
Former Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams led the tributes to Mrs Reynolds on social media.
Mr Adams tweeted: "My comhbhrón le clann Kathleen Reynolds. Kathleen’s husband, Albert Reynolds, did more than any Taoiseach before him on the peace process. Kathleen was very much his partner in this work. She always made me welcome and I am very sorry to hear of her death."
Mrs Reynolds had seven children with her husband and was by his side while the Taoiseach attended international engagements during his time in office (1992-1994)
Mr Reynolds died in 2014 aged 81.
