Katherine Ryan's new Netflix series The Duchess has landed - what it's about and the reviews so far

Katherine Ryan has written her own Netflix series and it's finally here.

The Canadian comedian is probably best best known for appearing on panel shows such as 9 out of 10 Cats, Mock the Week and Would I Lie to You?

But her latest project, The Duchess, landed on Netflix this morning (Friday) and stars Ryan herself.

The series is a semi-biographical comedy based on her life in London.

It follows Katherine, a single mum juggling her career, her daughter Olive with ex-partner - former boyband member Shep - and a relationship with her new boyfriend.

The new show, which has drawn comparisons with Catastrophe and Fleabag, also stars Maya Jama, and plenty of up-and-coming actors and comedians including Peaky Blinders' Rory Keenan.

Ryan recently said the lead character in the six-part series is "more like my stage persona" than a completely faithful replication of herself.

And despite it only being live for a few hours, people are already getting stuck in.

One fan said on Twitter: "Already obsessed with #theduchess after two episodes."

"Only 3 minutes into #TheDuchess and already I know I'm gonna love it, I want that jumper," another commented.

A third added: "#TheDuchess is now on Netflix and after 10 minutes, I can already tell it's gonna be one of my favorite new shows."

As for other reviews, it's been a bit of a mix.

The Telegraph has given the series two out of five stars, while the Metro gave it three and a half stars, describing it as being an "acquired taste".

But what do you think?
