Katherine Ryan apologises to daughter's 'bully' after 'slagging child off on podcast'

Katherine Ryan has revealed that she had to apologise to another parent after publicly claiming that their child had been bullying her daughter.

The comedian, 38, is said to have spoken about the incident on Unforgivable - hosted by Mel Giedroyc, 53 - in which celebrities discuss their own bad behaviour.

She appeared on a recent episode of the show - which airs on the channel Dave - alongside the likes of Rupaul's Drag Race UK finalist Bimini Bon Boulash, 28.

Amongst other stories, Ryan revealed that she had once "slagged off" a young child on a podcast in an act of "revenge," as reported by the Independent earlier.

The mum-of-two thought it was a "funny angle to bully these children" in her stand-up, with her adding that in her opinion comedy is "a lot about surprise."

She said: "It's very surprising to have a sweet-looking, young single mom slagging off a bunch of toddlers."

Ryan said that during an appearance on a podcast once, she had claimed that a child had been "quite aggressively" bullying her eldest child, Violet, now 12.

Discussing her feelings at the time, she said: "I can slag this kid off, if his parents don't like it, they can maybe sort the bullying out and give my child a good day at school."

The comedian - who gave birth to son Fred, now eight months old, last year - said that when she made the claim she included the child's full name - which she regrets.

As a result, Ryan said that the child's mother "confronted" her in the playground, stating that the other parent said to her: "Well, you've certainly immortalised that story."

And according to the Independent, she apologised to the other parent and told Giedroyc: "I never should have used the child's name."

She has appeared on numberous panel shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. And she has had two live stand-up specials released on Netflix.

Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable continues on channel Dave next Tuesday (February 22). Catch-up through UKTV Play.
