Katherine Jenkins 'in tears after being mugged as she heroically stops assault'

Katherine Jenkins has reportedly been mugged in a London street robbery.

The 39-year-old classical singer looked to intervene when she witnessed an elderly woman being mugged on King's Road in Chelsea on Wednesday afternoon.

Katherine was on her way to perform at the Straubenzee Memorial charity carol service at St Luke's Church, when the incident happened.

A statement from Katherine's representatives explains what happened and how the singer heroically tried to prevent the attack on the elderly woman by a gang of girls.

They told Mirror Online: "Katherine was in London to sing at the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Charity Carol Concert at St Lukes Church.

"On her way to rehearsal she witnessed an older lady being viciously mugged and intervened to help.

As a result of her stepping in, Katherine was then mugged herself."

Despite her ordeal, Katherine managed to give enough information to ensure an arrest was made.

The statement continued: "However she helped the police identify the perpetrator and the young woman was arrested shortly afterwards."

After her heroic intervention, Katherine managed to put her ordeal behind her to ensure the charity was not disappointed.

Her reps added: "Miraculously, Katherine still managed to perform at the concert as she didn't want to let the charity down.

"This is an ongoing investigation so we are unable to comment further."

The songstress was reportedly close to tears after the incident which was described to Mail Online as "extremely violent" by witnesses.

Scotland Yard confirmed that police were called at 3.10pm to a reported robbery on Wednesday.

Mail Online reported that two 15-year-old girld was arrested on suspicion of robbery and that a female member of public had tried to intervene.

Scotland Yard also added that an officer was assaulted but did not require hospital treatment.
