Katherine Jenkins explains 'very personal' reason she took part in The Masked Singer

Katherine Jenkins came third on The Masked Singer and was unveiled to be Octopus.

Today the 39-year-old joined Lorraine on the ITV show to discuss her reasons for joining the popular singing series.

The Neath-born opera singer said the show was "bonkers" but revealed the very sweet reason she decided to sign up.

Katherine, who shares two children with her husband Andrew Levitas, revealed she did it for her four-year-old daughter.

Speaking to Lorraine, Katherine told the presenter that it's "quite hard" for her little one to understand what she does, especially when it comes to classical musical.

She said: "When they approached me about it and they told me the premise of the show, I've got a little four and a half year old at home, and I thought it's quite hard for her to understand what I do."

Katherine added: "Classical music is quite serious sometimes and singing in other languages, and I thought if I could create a character that she would love she might get it.

"She loves Blue Planet, she loves pink and purple things, so I thought I'd make this thing for her."

Eager to impress her daughter, Katherine added: "The eyelashes were for her, some of the songs I chose were things that I knew she'd love."

But there was a price to pay, as Katherine explained that the Octopus costume was so heavy they eventually had to put it on wheels.

She said: "It was the heaviest of the costumes and all the weight was on my shoulders so it was hard to jump around."

When asked by Lorraine if she'd put the Octopus on again, Katherine jokingly replied: "Maybe for the school run, I think they would love that on the school run."

Lorraine on ITV weekdays from 9am.
