Jennifer Jom, 37, grew up with her mum besotted by Princess Diana and her style.
But it was Kate's stunning look when her engagement to Prince William was announced in November 2010 that prompted Jennifer, a dentist, to start copying her wonderful wardrobe.
The Brisbane resident now estimates she has around 30 ‘replikate’ items but, instead of costing tens of thousands of pounds, she has grabbed them for as little as AUS$20 (£11.23) each.
“I’ve always loved Kate’s style and became aware of her when she first started dating Prince William," mum-of-two Jennifer said.
“But she really caught my attention when she got engaged and had a photoshoot in a beautiful blue Issa dress.
“The piece wasn’t custom-made, it was readily available online, which made me realise her look is actually attainable."
Jennifer went online right away to buy her own version of her style icon's engagement dress - the first item in her ‘replikate’ wardrobe.
Now, she has copying Kate down to a fine art, hopping on Instagram or blogs like What Kate Wore to work out where her outfits are from the minute a picture of her is published in the world's press.
“The things Kate wears tend to sell out really quickly. The fact I’m in Australia can make that tricky as, often when pictures of her are published in the UK, it’s the middle of the night for me.
“Sometimes, if I know she’s making a public appearance, I may stay up a little later just to look out for photos and make sure I don’t miss out.”
But the mum to Oscar, four, and Charlotte, 18 months (whose name was inspired by Kate and William's daughter) doesn't just buy regardless of price.
Once Jennifer has worked out which labels Kate is wearing, she does her utmost to find either an exact replica or a very close copycat, using boot sale apps like eBay and Depop, as well as online consignment stores - a type of secondhand shop, where customers can buy and sell unwanted items – so she rarely pays full price.
“I wouldn’t automatically buy something just because Kate has worn it. I do have to consider style, and whether it would suit me," she explained.
“But I love the way she dresses, so her pieces often compliment my wardrobe anyway."
And her deep knowledge of Kate and her outfits means she can get some real bargains.
“A lot of the time, people don’t realise they are selling something Kate has worn – they think it’s just a regular dress – so they sell it cheap as they’re just looking to get rid of it.
“For example, I got the Reiss dress she wore to meet the Obamas, which is worth £175, for around $20 from a consignment store.
“I’ve also picked up a Stella McCartney gown like hers worth thousands for less than AUS$200 [£112.49].
“All in, I estimate I’ve spent around AUS$5,000 (£2,806) – and that’s on everything including accessories and shoes.”
And when she can't find the exact item, she can often find something that will pass.
So she snapped up a copycat version of a £320 white Self Portrait gown that Kate wore in November 2016 from ASOS for a fraction of the price.
She also nabbed a lookalike of the iconic black lacy Temperley dress online - a favourite which the Duchess has worn to a number of events, including the 2012 premiere of War Horse.
“That Temperley dress is probably my favourite Kate look. I would love to one day get the proper version,” said Jennifer.
“I saw it once on Net-A-Porter, but it was $2,000AUD (£1,124), which was too much money to decide to drop in one go.”
Such is her love for Kate's style, it's even spilt over to her children.
“I got Oscar a personalised bathrobe like one George had on when he met the Obamas, and I’ve ordered a couple of dresses for my own Princess Charlotte,” she said.
“She’s a little too young to wear them now, but will grow into them soon.”
Around six months ago, Jennifer decided to set up an Instagram account dedicated to her ‘replikate’ wardrobe – and has since befriended women from all over the world who share her passion for the royals.
Despite enjoying mutual admiration with other 'replikates' she has also been criticised for copying the royals.
She said: “My friends are all great and have a laugh with it, but the replikate community does sometimes get criticised by people saying we don’t have our own style.
“The way I see it, it’s no different to taking inspiration from celebrities, or models in the pages of Vogue.
“It’s all just a bit of fun and isn’t hurting anyone.”
And, at the end of the day, Kate's appeal is easy to see.
“I love her because she’s classy, but also relatable. She can wear a tiara one minute, then jeans and sneakers the next," Jennifer said.
"She's got some great investment pieces she'll wear multiple times. She also wears high street brands, which are affordable, then when the occasion calls for it, she has some showstopping dresses.
"Yes, she’s a duchess, but she’s also your regular mum-of-three.”
