Kate Middleton will carry Prince Harry's workload after he is stripped from his duties

Kate Middleton is to take on Prince Harry's workload after the Queenrelieved him of his royal duties.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 39, will now take on two of his roles.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties and moved to California last year.

The Mirror reports that Harry was a keen rugby fan and also previously played the sport. He was vice-patron of the RFU from 2010 to 2016 before taking over from the Queen as patron.

Along with her other duties, Kate will become patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League, reports The Sunday Times.

There will likely be some friendly competition in the Cambridge household when Wales and England go head to head in the Six Nations, as William holds the equivalent role at the Welsh Rugby Union.

No stranger to sport, The Duchess also plays tennis and hockey, praising the physical and mental benefits of sports.

She is already patron of the All England Lawn and Tennis Croquet Club, the Lawn Tennis Association, SportsAid and the 1851 Trust, which works with young people.

Long before her 2011 marriage to William, Kate and her family would plan their weekends around international rugby matches.

She attended the 2015 World Cup in England and the 2017 Six Nations clash between France and Wales in Paris.

Kate's sister Pippa wrote in Vanity Fair magazine in 2014: “If we lost, my dad would be in a state of despair for the rest of the afternoon, as if he’d actually lost the game himself.”

Harry's honorary military appointments, such as Captain General of the Royal Marines that in 2017 he took over from his grandfather Prince Philip after he held the role for 64 years, were also removed following his decision to step back.

In addition to the this, the patronage of the National Theatre, was removed from Meghan after the Queen gifting to her. Her Royal Highness held the position for 45 years.

The couple have dropped the HRH from their names but it is highly unlikely their 'wedding gift' Royal titles will also be stripped.

Discussions are ongoing about what to do with the Duke and Duchess' remaining patronages but senior military sources told the Times the Princess Royal was “nailed on” to become the first female Captain General of the Royal Marines.

Similarly to Kate her presence in the role would be a crucial driver behind a campaign to attract more female commandos – of 600 applicants last year none were women.

The patronage was held by the late Duke of Edinburgh until 2017 and he was understood to be keen for his only daughter to take it on.

Princess Anne is said to be “very keen” to take on the role.

Her current roles include patron of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Commodore-in-Chief, Portsmouth, while she is also patron of the Scottish Rugby Union.
