A fateful shopping trip in the early years of Kate Middleton's marriage to Prince William led to a fake name - which The Duchess of Cambridge now uses as her secret name whilst out shopping to stop people recognising her. Whilst Kensington Palace staff sort the family's food shopping, Kate takes trips by herself sometimes.
The Mirror have reported Kate Middleton uses a specific, secret name so shopkeepers don't recognise her when she's out in public. Shortly after Kate and Wills' wedding in 2011, The Duchess was out shopping and found herself unable to pay for it, so she had to reserve it under a secret name - which has now stuck.
Embarrassed, Kate had forgotten her purse whilst out shopping, so reserved the item under a fake name. The incident occurred when the Duke of Cambridge, then a rescue pilot at RAF Valley, was stationed in Anglesey in Wales.

Kate Middleton rented a nearby farmhouse. Locals often spotted the Duchess of Cambridge in the shops.
When trying to purchase a wetsuit from a water sports shop called Funsport, it wasn't until she got to the till that she realised she'd forgotten to bring her purse. Unable to pay, Kate gave the shopkeeper a secret name to reserve the item for collection.
The shopkeeper asked for her name. Kate responded, "Mrs Cambridge".
After the incident, a source told The Mail on Sunday, "[The shopkeeper] produced a pen and asked for her name. Perhaps she was trying to play down her destiny as future Queen, but she replied ‘Mrs Cambridge’.
"He was looking straight at her and actually commented that it was quite an unusual surname. He hadn’t a clue who she was.
“She just smiled and said she’d be back.” And it turns out the Royal bodyguards also have secret nicknames for Kate and Wills - "Danny Collins" and "Daphne Clark" - according to the Daily Mail.
