Kate Middleton suffers embarrassing moment when handshake goes wrong on Royal Tour

The Duchess of Cambridge is normally spot on when it comes to protocol, and her engagements are flawless after almost a decade of practise as a member of the Royal Family.

But she is human after all, so can sometimes fall victim to a bit of a mishap just like the rest of us.

Today was a perfect example of this, when a handshake with a solider on the second day of her with Prince William went very, very wrong.

The couple spent the morning at a government-run school in the capital, Islamabad.

As they got out of their Land Rover they were greeted by a uniformed solider, who saluted to William and then shook his hand.

Moments later Kate joined them, but went to shake his hand straight away. He still needed to salute, which resulted in him ignoring his hand to perform the salute before quickly putting his arm down to meet her's.

Oops!

Kate being Kate, she handed it like a pro and smiled broadly until he had completed the salute and was ready to shake her hand.

The couple had a quick chat with him before heading inside to begin the engagement, the first on their busy schedule for the day.

There were there to learn more about the Teach for Pakistan programme, a fast-track teacher training programme modelled on the UK's Teach First scheme.

Kate wore a stunning royal blue traditional kurta for the morning's engagements, drawing comparisons to her mother-in-law Princess Diana who was pictured wearing a very similar outfit during her visit to the country in 1997.

After meeting with some of the schoolgirls during the visit to the Islamabad school, William was told the girls were “big fans of your mother”.

Reporters said he gave a “broad, slightly wistful, smile” before replying: “You were, really? Oh that’s very sweet of you. I was a big fan of my mother too. She came here three times. I was very small.”

Later in the day they met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, who William knew when he was a child as he was good friends with Diana.

This evening they are attending a reception at the Pakistani Monument near Islambad.

They both wore green - the colour of the Pakistani flag - as they arrived for the banquet.

William was wearing a tradition Shervani for the visit, a long coat-like garment which is popular with men across India and Pakistan.
