Kate Middleton steps out in the perfect summer dress as patron of the Royal Photographic Society

Kate Middleton made a surprise appearance on Tuesday afternoon at a photography workshop for Action For Children.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who is a keen photographer herself, attended the event run by the Royal Photographic Society just hours after it was announced that the Queen had passed her patronage of the organisation on to the 37-year-old.

Kate's new appointment was revealed on the Kensington Royal Instagram account earlier today. A statement read: "Her Majesty The Queen became Patron of the Royal Photographic Society, one of the world's oldest photographic societies, in 1952. Today The Queen has passed the patronage of the Royal Photographic Society to The Duchess of Cambridge, ahead of The Duchess’s visit to a photography workshop run by The Royal Photographic Society and Action for Children, another of The Duchess’s patronages.

"The Duchess of Cambridge has a longstanding interest in photography, and this patronage will further highlight the beneficial impact that art and creativity can have on emotional wellbeing, particularly for children and young people," Kensington Palace added.

Dressed for humid summer weather, the duchess donned a perfect breezy summer dress by Ridley London. The paisley printed midi featured feminine frill sleeves, a tiered hem and a sash tied around the waist.

Kate accessorised the look with fern adorned gold earrings by Catherine Zoraida (£150), as well as her favourite Castaner wedged espadrilles, a Spanish brand which is also a favourite with her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex.
