Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, surprised royal watchers after making a last-minute decision to cancel her appearance at the second day of Royal Ascot. While her absence initially sparked speculation, royal experts have clarified that her ongoing health journey and the current UK heatwave played a key role in her decision.
The Princess, who is recovering from a recent cancer diagnosis, has only recently begun returning to public life. Her schedule remains flexible, with experts noting she is still navigating the delicate balance between royal duty and her health.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, royal commentator Hilary Fordwich explained that Kate has been transparent about the challenges of her recovery. “She has been forthright regarding her still experiencing ‘good days and bad days,’ as she once said,” Fordwich stated.
“She is hoping the public will be patient since she is ‘not out of the woods quite yet.’ She has acknowledged having to be sensible, listening to what her body is telling her as she eases back to public life.”
Fordwich also emphasized that royal fans should anticipate a lighter schedule for the foreseeable future. “We should expect her to maintain a lighter schedule of engagements than previously. Her decisions, as always, will be responsible and dignified,” she said.
“Princess Catherine is making steady progress in her recovery,” Fordwich added. “This announcement is confirmation that she’ll remain cautious, flexible and measured with her health taking precedence. We should expect similar last-minute adjustments since navigating such challenging health issues isn’t easy.” She also hinted that Kate “might attend” Wimbledon, depending on how she feels.
In addition to her health, environmental factors may have influenced her decision to skip Ascot. Royal commentator Ian Pelham Turner noted the extreme weather currently affecting the UK. “At the moment we are experiencing a heatwave making London warmer than the Caribbean,” he said.
Turner added, “I presume Kate may be feeling the effects of this and, still taking aggressive drugs, may have been told by her doctors to be very careful.” He continued, “We are hearing apparently all is well and that Kate is making steady progress but still finds an energy lapse on some occasions.”
While Prince William attended the event solo, the Palace made it clear that the Princess’s health remains the top priority. As she continues her recovery, last-minute changes and reduced public appearances will likely be part of her journey back to royal life.
