It's been a difficult week for the Royal Family as they come to terms with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to quit.
But the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge put on brave faces as they hosted a charity event at Buckingham Palace , with the support of some of their relatives.
Kate shared a very sweet moment with her in-laws Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex - who was also celebrating her 55th birthday - as they arrived at the fancy do.
As the royals arrived they all shared a very sweet greeting, smiling and exchanging pleasantries before heading inside.
Kate and Wills kissed each of their relatives on each cheek.
Having been a member of the family for almost 10 years, Kate knows her in-laws very well and is said to be particularly close to Sophie, who is married to William's uncle Edward.
The Duchess dazzled in a sparkly red gown by Needle & Thread gown, believed to be worth more than £400.
The function, to celebrate the UK's relationship with Africa, was the couple's first solo engagement since the Megxit deal was thrashed out.
Kate seemed relaxed and happy during the event, and was seen laughing alongside her husband and holding his arm.
The mum seemed all smiles as she mingled with various Government officials from African nations.
The couple hosted the event on behalf of the Queen, and William mentioned her in his speech.
He said: "My grandmother is sorry not to be here this evening, but she has asked me to pass on her warmest wishes to you all.
"The African continent holds a very special place in my heart. It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died.
"And when deciding where best to propose to Catherine, I could think of no more fitting place than Kenya to get down on one knee.
"Throughout my life, I have been lucky enough to spend time in many other parts of Africa. I’m also honoured to be the Patron of the Royal African Society.
"And as Catherine and I have said to several of you here tonight, we hope to have the chance to visit many more countries in the future and share our mutual love of your continent with our children."
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were absent from the event after quitting their royal duties earlier this month.
The Duke attended an engagement earlier in the day but boarded a plane back to Canada to rejoin his wife and son Archie in the evening.
Speaking on the weekend, Prince Harry said the UK will always be his home and the place he loves.
The dad conceded he had 'no other option' but to quit the country for North America.
