Kate Middleton's indulgent treat from William after George, Charlotte and Louis go to bed

Kate Middleton enjoys a daily treat, prepared by her husband Willian, after their three much-loved children head off to bed.

It is very well documented that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are hands-on parents, but it can be tiring keeping on top of three young children.

And according to one of their friends, when their royal and parenting duties are out of the way, William likes to treat his wife to her favourite tipple - a gin and tonic. The pal told PEOPLE: "William will bring Kate a gin-and-tonic. They look after each other, but in different ways."

They also added that Kate "runs things at home with the kids and the schedules" and "is hugely involved in every single part of their day".

However, it won't just be her own children that Kate will be reading a bedtime story to tonight - it will be kids up and down the country, reports the Mirror.

That's because she will be a special guest on the CBeebies channel to read the nightly bedtime story at 6.50pm.

She will be reading the modern children’s classic The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark, by Jill Tomlinson, which tells the story of Plop, who is helped by others to grow in confidence and overcome his fears.

In a teaser clip from her appearance, Kate encourages young viewers to face their fears

She says: “Wow, what an encouraging tale.

“We can all feel scared sometimes just like our little owl friend Plop, but as Mrs Barn Own said, ‘It’s better to find out about the things that scare us before we make up our mind’.

“And with the help of others, we can often face things that worry us. Now it’s time for bed. Night night and sleep tight.”

The duchess is following in the footsteps of Hollywood star Chris Evans, best known for playing Captain America, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and British actor Tom Hiddleston, who have all appeared on CBeebies Bedtime Stories.
