Kate Middleton's grovelling apology to girl, 3, who scolded her over outfit choice

The Duchess of Cambridge had to apologise to a three-year-old fan who didn't approve of her outfit choice, claiming she didn't "look like Cinderalla".

Kate met Rhian Costello and her daughter Annabel during a royal visit to Swansea, Wales, with Prince William.

Little Annabel was very excited to meet a "real princess" but was left a tad disappointed as Kate wasn't wearing a Disney-inspired dress.

The Duchess ended up apologising "for not wearing a pretty dress" in a very cute exchange.

Instead of a glitzy gown, Kate opted for a Hobbs coat, Zara dress and an eye-catching Beulah London scarf.

Rhian and Annabel waited for the royals at Mumbles pier for an hour, excited to see them.

The mum said: "My daughter loves fairy tales and Cinderella, and she was really excited to meet a real princess.

"Kate said 'I'm really sorry I'm not wearing a pretty dress today' and Annabel said: 'I thought you'd look like Cinderella'."

But Rhian told the Daily Mail that despite not wearing a big Cinderella dress, Annabel was "so taken" with the Duchess.

She added: "Annabel was so taken with her, she went up and gave her a huge hug and I was extremely surprised that Kate embraced her in such a way."

The mum said she hoped in 10 years her daughter would look back and realise what an amazing encounter she'd had.

Kate and William were smiling and in good spirits as they walked to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) base in Mumbles, near Swansea.

They started the day by greeting volunteers at the RNLI station, one of the charity's busiest in Wales.

The pair then boarded a lifeboat and spoke to volunteers about day-to-day life as part of a team that provides 24-hour rescue services at sea.

Kate and William were greeted by well wishers upon their arrival - and showed their appreciation when they left.
