Kate Middleton's forgotten title which features on George, Charlotte and Louis' birth certificates

Nine years ago today, on July 22, 2013, fans of the Royal Family and members of the press from around the world held their breath outside St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, as they waited for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to emerge, holding their newborn son. Today, Prince George celebrates his ninth birthday.

Nearly a decade later, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge now have three children - George, nine, Charlotte, seven, and Louis, four. Each birth has brought delight to both The Firm and royal fans.

Despite their lives of privilege, Kate and William have always tried to provide their three children with somewhat normal upbringings, whilst abiding by royal protocol and tradition. The couple have taught their children to treat others with respect, and have shielded them from the limelight.

Although they do all they can to give their brood relatively typical childhoods, Kate and William cannot always escape the fact that they're royals. Birth certificates are legal documents, and so the Duke and Duchess have always had to fill them out correctly, as have many parents, after the arrival of each royal baby, and not shy away from their status.

Just like everybody else, Kate and William have had to make note of their occupations on their children's birth certificates. Under the 'occupation' heading, William has always written 'Prince of the United Kingdom', while on Kate's side she has printed 'Princess of the United Kingdom'.

Although Kate is mostly known as the Duchess of Cambridge, she is also a princess, which some may not know. Kate's full title is Princess William of Wales and has been since she tied the knot with William in April 2011, although she seldom makes use of it.

Similarly, when it was first released to the public, Meghan and Harry's son, Archie's birth certificate attracted a lot of attention as Meghan was referred to as 'Princess of the United Kingdom'. Whilst Meghan was given the title of the Duchess of Sussex by the Queen on her wedding day in 2018, she is also Princess Henry of Wales.

Some royal fans were also shocked to see that Meghan's name was listed as Rachel, as many were unaware that this is her real name. Her parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, have called her Meghan since birth, and all of her friends use the familiar name rather than Rachel, too.
