Kate Middleton 'recoils' as Prince William touches her on A Berry Royal Christmas

Eagle eyed royal watchers claim Kate Middleton recoiled from Prince William when he put his hand on her shoulder in a BBC programme.

The Duchess of Cambridge appeared to move away from her husband when he touched her shoulder during A Berry Royal Christmas, which aired on Monday night.

Some thought the interaction was 'awkward' and said Kate moved with a 'quickness', however others backed the Duchess for apparently avoiding a PDA (public display of affection).

The encounter happened when Kate and William sat down to speak to charity volunteers at a Christmas party the couple organised for them.

Former Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry helped the pair prepare a menu for the event and also joined them on royal engagements in the programme.

Twitter users picked up on Kate's reaction to William's touch.

One wrote: "Awkward! Too awkward!! They should have cut it out."

Another said Kate 'moved with a quickness' after her husband reached out for her.

A third person commented: "Kate shaking off William's hand on her shoulder during #ABerryRoyalChristmas."

One royal watcher said she reacts the same way when her mum touches her shoulder because it makes her feel uncomfortable.

However, others insisted people had misinterpreted the behaviour.

A Kate Middleton fan tweeted: "LOOK WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Kate is beautifully content as William’s hand rests on her shoulder. FIRST William STARTS to remove his hand, AFTER Kate simply shifts."

According to Mail Online , one person commented: "I like the way they interact, it’s professional.

"I don’t want to see excessive hand holding and back rubbing. It’s awkward, like you’re intruding on a private moment."

Another said: "I think he tickled her back or shoulder. She did move but there were no dirty looks or even a facial reaction."
