Kate Middleton proves dedication to royals with George, Charlotte and Louis's summer holiday

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have treated their kids to a sunny staycation on the Isles of Scilly, and have been exploring the beautiful island on their bikes.

They couldn't have picked a better week for it, with a heatwave in full swing and temperatures sitting comfortably in the 30s across the UK.

Their holiday is very different to the break they took last year, when they spent two weeks in a stunning £27,000-a-week villa on the private Caribbean island of Mustique.

They were joined by George, Charlotte and Louis's grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton at the holiday home, which boasts a huge infinity pool and stunning sea views.

While they wouldn't have been able to travel to the island for this year's getaway, they could have picked to visit one of the countries on the UK's travel list - but opted for something closer to home.

Sources said Kate and William made the decision as they were concerned about the potential need to quarantine when they got back.

If they did have self-isolate they wouldn't have been able to carry out their royal duties - which they've just started again following lockdown - and they weren't willing to take the risk of missing engagements.

Kate and William were seen cycling across the stunning island of Tresco on Thursday.

A holidaymaker said: “William and Kate were riding their bicycles, having a laugh. They looked so happy enjoying the weather.

“I did do a double take. They were really friendly and said hello.”

Scilly has a special place in William's heart as he went there as a child with brother Harry and his parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

William was pictured as a boy visiting Scilly in June 1989 wearing shorts and a red jumper on a bike ride with his family.

And rumours spread after their 2011 wedding that he and Kate flew to the destination off the coast of Cornwall.

The couple, both 38, visited in 2016 – when William reminisced about his trip as a seven-year-old lad.

The Cambridges have been staying at their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk.

A source said: “They decided on a quick getaway before the children return to school. They were keen to support our travel industry.”

The family are expected to return to Norfolk on Friday.
