The Duchess of Cambridge could have a joint 40th birthday party with Prince William, after shelving plans for her own big bash on Sunday.
Kate has ditched the idea of a big do this weekend due to the Covid situation.
She will instead “celebrate privately with her family”, sources have revealed.
The Queen is expected to throw William a party for his own 40th in June, with Windsor Castle or Sandringham among the likely venues.
Similar lavish bashes have previously been thrown to jointly celebrate significant birthdays of several members of the family at the same time.
Back in June 2000 a huge do was held at Windsor to celebrate Prince Andrew’s 40th birthday, Princess Anne’s 50th, Princess Margaret’s 70th and William’s 18th.
A source told the Mirror: “It’s very much a scaled-down occasion this year for the Duchess, who will celebrate privately with her family.
“Of course she is mindful of the current situation. She will be surrounded by loved-ones and that’s all that matters.”
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, said she expects the Queen will play a major role in the planning of the party for William.
Ingrid said: “The Queen is tremendously fond of enjoying such occasions and this would be no different.
“There’s a lot to look forward to in her Platinum Jubilee year, and with both William and Kate turning 40 it’s an extra excuse to celebrate.
“This is a pretty big one for the Cambridges so it should be quite the party.”
