Kate Middleton invited on photoshop course by Royal Photographic Society

Londoner’s Diary

The Princess of Wales’s photo editing skills have been the talk of the town this week after her Mother’s Day post on social media turned out to be badly Photoshopped. “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” said the Princess in her apology. But she’s no ordinary amateur. We note that among her many public duties, HRH Kate is star patron of the Royal Photographic Society, inheriting the role from Queen Elizabeth II a few years back. The society even offers specialist photo editing workshops. “The Princess of Wales would be very welcome to attend my Introduction to Photoshop workshop, and being the Patron of the RPS, of course she’d attend for free,” Tim Daly, RPS photo editing course leader, told us. “Don’t forget it was the Prince who took the shots, so I’d be happy to help Kate fix her husband’s camerawork!”

‘I don’t like coffee shops,’ says Faulks at Caffe Nero awards

Sebastian Faulks (ITV)

Caffè Nero launched their inaugural book awards at Here At Outernet last night, with The Bee Sting author Paul Murray taking home the Gold prize after missing out on the Booker. Coffee shops and literary types seem to go together like ham and eggs, but Sebastian Faulks, prize-winning author of Birdsong, isn’t a fan. “I never buy coffee in a coffee shop. I make it at home. I just don’t see the point. I make much nicer coffee,” he told us forthrightly at last night’s awards, while enjoying Caffè Nero’s hospitality. Turning to the psychology of people who buy coffee out, he said: “I think people just like going out and stretching their legs, but it’s a mystery to me.”
