Kate Middleton had her heart set on a very different baby name for Prince George

A royal expert has claimed that Kate Middleton had her heart set on a different baby name before she and Prince William welcomed their first child.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are now proud parents to three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

And while their little ones' names are now a part of history, picking out and actually agreeing on those monikers for their kids were likely not the easiest of tasks.

When it came to naming their firstborn, Kate and Prince William decided not to find out the gender of the baby, so had picked out a couple of options they liked for both a boy and a girl, reports The Mirror. They eventually settled on George Alexander Louis.

However, according to a royal expert, there was one name Kate 'had her heart set on' before giving birth - and it wasn't George.

Katie Nicholl previously revealed in Vanity Fair: "Courtiers insisted the pair had not found out the sex of their unborn baby, and friends close to the couple claim William wanted a surprise.

"Although Kate apparently suspected it was a boy and had set her heart on the name Alexander, they had not yet decided what to call their firstborn."

Ms Nicholl went on to say that the Duchess reportedly referred to her baby bump as "our little grape", while pregnant with George.

The young royal's name hails back to the Queen’s father, King George VI, and Kate did get to use her preferred choice as a middle name for her son.

As is common in the Royal Family, the young prince is now also known by several nicknames - including Tips.

This nickname originally started off as PG Tips, like the brand of tea, because of his initials P and G for Prince George. But eventually, they dropped the PG part and Tips stuck.
