Kate Middleton gives glimpse inside her new book day after Meghan Markle reveals hers

Kate Middleton has shared a glimpse into her photobook 'Hold Still' ahead of its launch on Friday - a day after he sister-in-law unveiled her own children's book.

The project, a collection of 100 photographs which captured life in the UK under lockdown and the Covid-19 pandemic, has been ongoing for a year.

It will be released on May 7 and the Duchess of Cambridge has put out a video showing a brief glimpse into its contents via social media.

The tease of the work came amid accusations that her sister-in-law Meghan Markle was "trying to upstage" her after announcing her own book, titled 'The Bench.'

That book is said to be about the special relationship between a dad and a son. It is inspired by her husband Prince Harry and their son Archie, and will be published next month.

On the Cambridge's official Instagram account a video has been posted showing a number of pages from the book and some of the portraits that have been selected.

The social media post is captioned with the words "Coming this Friday...#HoldStill2020".

The brief tease sparked a number of enthusiastic responses from fans who praised the Duchess's work.

One wrote: "This was such a fantastic project. Congratulations to the Duchess of Cambridge for this awesome initiative."

Another said: "So excited to keep this for my son as he grows. Something for him to get a glimpse of the lives of normal people living through Covid. Thank you everyone who were involved."

The Hold Still project was launched last year and invited people of all ages from across the UK to submit a photographic portrait which they had taken during the first lockdown.

From over 31,000 images submitted, 100 final portraits were selected and shown in a digital exhibition before being displayed across the UK.

The book, named Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020, will raise vital cash for mental health charity Mind and the National Portrait Gallery.

Mum-of-three Kate wanted to create a lasting legacy of how the country has collectively and individually battled through lockdown, celebrating the NHS and recognising how everyday people have coped during the pandemic.

In the introduction, Kate, 39, wrote: "When we look back at the Covid-19 pandemic in decades to come, we will think of the challenges we all faced – the loved ones we lost, the extended isolation from our families and friends and the strain placed on our key workers.

"But we will also remember the positives: the incredible acts of kindness, the helpers and heroes who emerged from all walks of life, and how together we adapted to a new normal.

“Through Hold Still, I wanted to use the power of photography to create a lasting record of what we were all experiencing – to capture individuals’ stories and document significant moments for families and communities as we lived through the pandemic.”
