Kate Middleton braves rain to cheer on England in Rugby League World Cup quarter-final

Kate Middleton showed her support for England at the quarter final of the men's Rugby League World Cup as the side booked its place in the next round.

The home nation took on Papua New Guinea this afternoon at the DW Stadium in Wigan where they ran out 46-6 winners.

Dressed in a full length scarlet coat and holding a large black umbrella Kate met the team and the mascots ahead of the much anticipated match.

Kate and husband William have been out on public engagements together this week, including a visit to Scarborough in Yorkshire.

The couple was adorably interrupted during a speech on Thursday by a little girl dressed as a princess as the quick-footed tot was determined to meet the real-life royals.

Two-year-old Callie Rose set her sights on the couple as they addressed the room.

She stole the show by stopping William in his tracks as he was praising the work of the Two Ridings Community Foundation.

He was totally thrown by the wandering toddler, leading to an embarrassed laugh from the 40-year-old as the rest of the room giggled before he found his composure to continue with his speech.

The royal was midway through congratulating everyone on their excellent work when his thunder was suddenly stolen.

The cute moment was caught on camera as Callie stepped forward in her blue and white outfit.

The couple had clearly made an impression on the youngster earlier in the day when Callie presented them with flowers as they launched a scheme funding support for young people's mental health.
